Terms of use

The rules for using Flashwell, in plain words. Your cards stay yours, and you can leave whenever you like.

Your account

Flashwell needs a free account, made with your e-mail, Apple or Google. One account is for one person. Keep your password to yourself, and tell Flashwell if you think someone else has used your account. You must be old enough to agree to these terms where you live (13 in most places), or have a parent's or guardian's permission.

Plans and payment

Flashwell is free for up to three decks, for as long as you like, with every feature. A deck here means a deck at the top of your Decks list: its subdecks belong to it, and the tutorial deck doesn't count. Adding a fourth deck needs a plan: £2.99 a week, £4.99 a month, or £49.99 paid once for life. With a plan there is no deck limit; nothing else changes.

Without a plan, nothing you already have is removed or hidden. If you have more than three decks, for example after a plan ends, you keep every one and can study all of them; only adding a new deck needs a plan.

Plans are bought through the Mac App Store. Weekly and Monthly renew automatically until you cancel them in your Apple Account settings, at least a day before the next renewal; Lifetime is paid once and lasts for as long as Flashwell runs. Apple takes the payment, and refunds follow Apple's rules. Prices can change; a change never applies to a period you have already paid for.

Codes and free accounts

From time to time Flashwell gives out codes for free time or a free lifetime. They are redeemed through the App Store, one per person, and can't be sold or exchanged. Accounts made before paid plans began are free for life, with no deck limit.

Whatever happens, the cards you made stay yours: you can always export them to Anki or CSV, plan or no plan.

Your cards are yours

You own the decks, cards, pictures and sounds you put into Flashwell. You give Flashwell permission to store and copy them only so it can run the service for you: keeping your Macs in step and keeping backups. You can export everything to Anki or CSV at any time.

Sharing decks

A deck you share in Community is public, under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 licence (CC BY-SA 4.0), credited as you choose. Share only what you made yourself or have the right to share. Shared decks that break these terms or someone's rights can be removed.

Using it fairly

  • Don't use Flashwell for anything unlawful, or to store or share material you have no right to.
  • Don't try to break, overload, probe or get around the protections of Flashwell's server, or reach other people's accounts.
  • Don't copy the website or the shared catalogue in bulk with automated tools.

As it is

Flashwell is made with care, but it is provided as it is, without guarantees that it will always be available or free of mistakes. Your cards always live on your Mac too, with automatic local backups, and you can export them whenever you like.

Responsibility

As far as the law allows, Flashwell is not responsible for indirect losses, such as lost time or lost revision, that come from using it or not being able to. Nothing here takes away rights you have by law as a consumer.

Leaving

You can delete your account at any time: in Flashwell, open Settings, then Account, then Delete account. An account that breaks these terms may be suspended or closed.

Other names

Anki is a trademark of its owners. Flashwell reads and writes Anki's file format but is not connected with Anki. Apple, Mac and macOS are trademarks of Apple Inc.

Changes

If these terms change, the date at the top changes too, and anything important is announced in the app first. See also Privacy.
